Timeline of Physics at Work
1 – 25 ms
Pressure rise from a deflagration opens the explosion vent allowing the dust and flame to enter the flameless vent
2 – 90 ms
The flame from the deflagration makes contact with the flameless vent mesh and the quenching process begins
3 – 200 ms
The deflagration is fully quenched and begins to contract as pressure is relieved and flame is retained
4 – 500 ms
As the hot gases cool the flameless vent allows cool air to flow and the explosion is mitigated safely
